North Hampshire Fundraising Committee

The Committee was founded 21 years ago under the patronage of The Rt Hon, Sir George Young, Bt, MP. It raises over £20,000 each year for Macmillan’s vital work in helping many people affected by cancer.

Current members, including some founders, are Chairman and Treasurer Ian Waddell, Secretary Margaret Burford, Martin and Virginia Budd, and Roland Weisz. The group meets in each others’ homes and organises collections and events. New Committee members or casual helpers are always welcome.

Active support is given by Macmillan staff Paul Morgan, Fundraising Manager – Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands, and Rob Lawrenson, Hampshire Community Fundraiser, based in Portsmouth and Andover respectively.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s role is expanding. Thanks to treatment advances people with cancer are living longer and often ‘quality’ lives but they and those close to them therefore need enhanced support. This costs money. Ellington @ Wellington was set up in response to this perceived need for the 21st Century.

A Special Volunteer Group was formed to produce the first Ellington @ Wellington in 2007, the biggest project ever tackled by the North Hampshire Committee, and worked with a will to attract an appealing array of artistes and to secure sponsorship, thanks to which all the proceeds, total over £5,500, went to Macmillan Cancer Support. The Committee aims to make Ellington @ Wellington 2008 even more successful.

The Special Volunteer Group members are: Ian Waddell and Tony Green of Hartley Wintney, Barbara and Michael Rice of Winchfield, Samantha Holden and Sarah Mouger of Odiham and Patricia Powell Public Relations Consultant, and Paul Morgan and Rob Lawrenson of Macmillan Cancer Support. Additional assistance has come from John Holden of McCarthy Holden Estate Agency.
